Geoff Cushner
LICSW-MA LCSW-CT
Managing Director & Clinician
Geoff brings over 30 years of extensive experience. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut and Master of Social Work degree from Boston College.
Geoff was previously employed by the Department of Children in Families for 17 years (2 years in Connecticut and 15 years in Massachusetts) spending many of those years in the field of adoption.
In 2016, Geoff participated in a course in Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts allowing an appreciation for a philosophy used in practice that is: “Paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”
Geoff also supervises the next generation of students pursuing their Master’s Degree in Social Work in their field placements.
Geoff is also a member of the Alliance of Social Work in Sports helping youth, college, and professional athletes address mental health needs. This is a particular interest to him given his affinity for sports of all types. He is aware there is limited mental health focus on the athlete when challenges arise as well as when the athlete identity changes upon leaving major competition in their sport.
Geoff is trained in a variety of models including TF-CBT, CBT, and narrative therapy all informing practice to help those he serves.
